Living in A World of Kindness & Gratitude

In honor of the Thanksgiving holiday here in the United States today, I would like to take a moment to reflect on its symbolize of gratitude, celebration and abundant blessings. Too often we get caught up in the busyness of day to day life and the negativity we see in the world around us on the news, radio and social media that we often overlook the small, subtle loving acts of kindness and blessings we receive on a daily basis; things that should be acknowledged and celebrated such as a hug from a loved one, holding the door for someone, receiving support from strangers and/or people you have met once or several times or reaching a goal. I am blessed , privileged, honored, and grateful to be a part of the newly released collaborative book, Goodness Abounds: 365 Loving Acts of Kindness along with 275 authors from around the globe showing that loving acts of kindness and goodness are all around us.

I have so much to be for grateful today and every day including the gift of life. I share a very powerful and heroic act of love shown by my significant other in the piece, “A Valiant Act of Love “, in which he physically risked his life to save mine after a car crash.

I tried taking three deep breaths but was unable to. ‘Matt I can’t breathe! You gotta call 911…the car is filling up with smoke!’ I started to panic as I dialed 911, hanging up before the call even went through. I knew I wouldn’t be able to talk; I could barely breathe!

It didn’t dawn on me that Matt was already out of the car, making his way around the vehicle to get me out. I heard him yell, ‘Push! You got to push the door open!’ He was standing on a rock wedged between two large tree limbs…… but as I reached out to Matt, I went unconscious.

The next thing I remember I was in an ambulance with an EMT

cutting my pant leg… I began screaming for Matt, not knowing what was going on, where he was, or if he was okay…. as soon as I heard the comfort and reassurance of his voice I slipped back into unconsciousness….

In “Giving Me Wings to Succeed “, a piece In Loving Memory of Matthew J Adams, I share how two strangers gave me the strength, comfort and courage I needed along with my late significant other to succeed at meeting my goal of staying half the day at a training event in a time of my deep sorrow and grief.

I was so excited!…. I couldn’t wait to see my other half later that night to tell him the news- and to celebrate his birthday! …… A few hours later my world came crashing down around me. Matt had passed away unexpectedly….The night before RTE, I didn’t want to go; my heart wasn’t in it. But I knew that Matt would still want me to go, so I set the goal to attend for at least have the day……

She sat down next to me, and we introduced ourselves and begin talking about World Ventures. I told her this was my second RTE and although I just arrived, I was about to go home. As I shared my story about Matt- the car accident in December, how we changed my life for the better, and his recent passing I began to cry.

We stood up, and Michelle gave me a hug to comfort and console me. As she did, the tears started flowing even more. A friend of hers saw us and came over to make sure everything was okay, and Michelle shared my story with him. Michelle and Brandon encouraged me to stay, lifted my spirits, and gave me the strength I needed. Together with Matt, they gave me the wings I needed to succeed…..

In “Planting the Field of Dreams”, I share how the generosity and visions of a special friend help nurture the seeds subtly planted in my field of dreams over the years.

My passion for living an all natural lifestyle began in my early twenties when I saw a nutritionist began reading books by Elson Haas and participated in a weekly yoga class. ….

I shared with Michael, a close friend of mine that I was taking aromatherapy classes at an online career school. He was happy to hear this and said, ‘ it sounds like it’s up and coming in the health and wellness field.’ He also offered to pay for my classes. I was stunned! I thanked him but declined. I was already enrolled in the payment plan, and I felt uncomfortable accepting such a generous offer. No one had ever invested in me and my future like this before. I wondered how I could ever repay him or show him my gratitude and appreciation…

I took angel meditation and aromatherapy classes while continuing to study other holistic health modalities independently… as I progressed further in my studies we started talking about my plans for the future and what I wanted to do with my certification once I completed it. He shared with me his vision and hopes to one day see me with my own store front and product line. This vision is already coming true as I’m starting to make my aromatherapy products available to others I’m in the process of earning my Doctorate of natural medicine degree and plan on opening a healing center in the future. I see now all these were seeds planting my field of dreams……

I pulled” For the Love Strangers”, the first piece, I originally I submitted for the book and replaced it with the piece above. I had suddenly become embarrassed and ashamed of having been homeless, a Truth of my past, so when I was offered another spot that had opened up, I knew this was a sign from the Universe that this piece was meant to be included in this book. Although it was one of the darkest and at times scariest periods of my life it was also one of the brightest as I put faith and trust in God, Goddess and the Universe and a time when loving acts of kindness shone through the most, so much so it was hard to include them all in one piece. I have such fond and happy memories of those that I shared this period of my life with, some whom have become life long long friends but all part of soul family.

… i had to choose between being a victim and being a survivor. I chose to be a survivor. In the process of escaping a terrible situation, however, I fell through the cracks due to the way the U.S government and judicial systems are set up and the availability of funding through programs for domestic violence victims. Even though I made countless attempts to prevent this from happening I was left homeless…..

These are only four examples of goodness and loving acts of kindness I wrote about in the book Goodness Abounds. I would like to share other examples of loving acts of kindness and goodness I find on a daily basis. Songs and sometimes particular song lyrics remind me of people and events that I am grateful for. For instance, the song lyric “just picture everybody naked” in the song “There’s Nothing Holding Me Back” by Shawn Menedes , makes me smile and remember some advice, support and encouragement given by my close friend Jason, someone I have never met in person but one of two people I was guided I could trust 100% as I began my spiritual awakening two years ago , the morning of my first book signing/author talk in May of this year. Not only was I so nervous, it was a bittersweet day as I was still grieving the loss of my significant other who would have been with me that day to give me his love, support, strength and encouragement. Jay sent me a message on messenger, “no worries girl. You got this, just picture everybody naked….”. His support from afar got me to smile and laugh through the tears and get me through the day, knowing there was someone else who was cheering me on and believed in me.

Other examples are friends and family who take the time out of their busy schedules to let me know they’re thinking of me, checking in to make sure I am ok or taking the time to respond back or surprise me with a phone call instead of texting back , or sending something in the mail to remind me the importance of self-care during my time of sadness and loss. The associate at Office Depot, the other day who took the time to help me with the placement of my logo and text boxes for my aromatherapy product guide brochure that I wasn’t able to figure out on my own, the postal clerk, several months ago who took the time to answer questions I had on shipping liquid products and overseas shipping which gave me took away my fears and gave me the confidence I needed to ship my aromatherapy products, and a store clerk who noticed I forgot my money orders on the counter and placed them aside until I was able to go back and get them. These may seem like nothing to some but to me these random acts of kindness that didn’t take much time had tremendous impact and meaning on me and how I view the world. They give me hope and prove that goodness can be found everywhere if one opens up to see them.

Tuning into your “goodness radar”,what are some of the blessings and things you have to be grateful for today?
