The Power of Love

Finger painting of the Valentine’s Day card I made Matt this year

There are very few people in my life that I could say, “I TRUST YOU WITH MY LIFE”, and even less uncommon for that person to actually have the opportunity to prove that I can indeed trust them with my life. There are no words to accurately express the power, emotions & feelings of having someone risk their life to save yours. I wouldn’t be sitting here right now writing this blog if it wasn’t for the grace of God and the love of my life Matt Adams risking his life to save mine on December 27, 2016 after a car accident.

I share this very powerful and emotional experience in my piece, “A Valiant Act of Love” in bestselling book Goodness Abounds: 365 True Stories of Loving Kindness.

“I tried taking three deep breaths but was unable to. “Matt, I can’t breathe! You gotta call 911…the car is filling up with smoke!” I started to panic as I dialed 911, hanging up before the call even went through…

It didn’t dawn on me that Matt was already out of the car, making his way around the vehicle to get me out…. He was standing on a rock, wedged between two large tree limbs….

It seemed like almost instantly he made his way back around the vehicle and was inside the car trying to help me out… but as I reached out to Matt, I went unconscious.

The next thing I remember, I was I in an ambulance with an EMT who was cutting my pant leg….

I wouldn’t be alive today if it wasn’t for the grace of God and Matt’s brave heart, courage determination, and love for me, risking his own life to save mine. I am forever blessed and grateful for Matt and his powerful, valiant act of love ”

An excerpt from “A Valiant Act of Love “

When you Love someone there are no limits or bounds as to what you will do to protect and in this instant also save them. “I don’t know how to explain it. It was like an adrenal rush, I saw the smoke & the steam coming out of the engine and all I could think was fire. I had to get you out of the car no matter what….”, Matt told me the first time I saw him after the car accident. I said to him, “like in Twilight, when Edward stops the truck from hitting Bella “, “yes”, he said, “kinda like that”.

I shared with him that when I began to panic while dialing 911, “remember your angels” popped into my mind, as I did, I heard the gentle voice of either Archangel Michael or Jesus say, “ Don’t panic. You are safe and protected.  Everything is going to be ok“. I told him, “I didn’t know you were already out of the car to try and get me out”.

I kept the cardboard cross of Jesus that I was given to me by the women at a store run by Catholic Charities in my cup holder . It helped get me through those times of being homeless and being thankful
for what I did have especially the nights when I had to sleep in my car because I met people through the
Salvation Army that lived in a tent city, exposed to the elements, I at least had heat and shelter. It was also in the cup holder the night of the accident & I now keep it on one of my altars as a reminder of all I have to be grateful for and the POWER OF LOVE.

“…She also referred me to a store in the same building run by Catholic Charities. I shared my story with the women there. I ‘d left with very little clothing, so they allowed me to pick out shoes, pajamas, and several outfits. They also gave me bags of food and a cardboard cross of Jesus that I liked. They were no longer accepting donations, so they referred a woman with several bags of clothing to me!

The above pictures are pictures inside and outside of the vehicle.   I took these pictures on December 31st, the day after I was released from the hospital. The first picture shows my cardboard cross still in the cupholder, the middle picture (although it may be hard see the colors due to variance in computer screens,) , shows the purple orb of AA Michael and a rainbow entity in the shape of an Angel right underneath as well as a picture of the vehicle so you can see that it truly it is a miracle I survived.  My body suffered major trauma and life-threatening injuries including a collapsed lung, four  broken ribs, fractured shoulder, broken humerus, elbow and a collapsed aorta in several places.
