It’s been a long day, you’ve been on your feet all day, working, running errands, and trying to get everything done on your to-do list. You get home flopping down in your favorite chair.  You can’t get your shoes off fast enough! Your feet and legs are tired and sore screaming for some TLC!

Treat yourself to a relaxing at-home foot spa with these DIY aromatherapy recipes. I frequently get asked where or what brands of essential oils to use. I have included affiliate links to the oils and companies that I use and trust.

Soothe My Achy Piggies Foot Soak

Lay a towel out on the floor to place your tub of water on top of. This will keep you from worrying about small spills and will be ready for your feet when you’re finished.

Add enough warm water to a footbath tub to ensure that it will cover the feet up to the ankles.  Add about half a cup of Epsom salt to the water and the essential oils.  Mix until the salt has dissolved. For an added spa effect, add some marbles or smooth stones to the bottom of your footbath.  Place your feet in the tub and soak for 15-20 minutes. After soaking, dry your feet well and apply Lift Me Up Leg Lotion. (Recipe below).

A leg massage will increase circulation, improve muscle tone, and gradually ease out any aches and pains. This is especially helpful if you have tired and over-exercised muscles.

Lift Me Up Leg Lotion

Pour the lotion into a bowl, add the essential oils one at a time and then mix very well. Once mixed, add the lotion into a one-ounce bottle or larger using a funnel.

Apply a small amount of massage oil to your leg from top to bottom. Using firm, kneading motions, massage your leg slowly moving upwards towards the buttocks.

To massage your feet, rest your foot on your thigh. Using your thumb make small circular movements traveling all over your instep and sole of your foot, paying particular attention to the area around the fleshy part of the instep.

To massage the toes, use small round movements, holding the toe between the thumb and fingers, massaging with a movement much like rolling a marble between thumb and fingers. Do this for each toe.

After massaging your toes, sweep up the whole leg with both hands using a long smooth firm massage movement.  Repeat on the other leg then elevate your feet and kick back relax.

Be sure to research and heed the safety precautions for each essential oil that you use. Avoid essential oils that can cause skin irritation or that are contraindicated for any issues that you have.

General Safety Information

Do not take any oils internally and do not apply undiluted essential oils, absolutes, CO2s, or other concentrated essences onto the skin without advanced essential oil knowledge or consultation from a qualified aromatherapy practitioner.

If you are pregnant, epileptic, have liver damage, have cancer, or have any other medical issue, use oils only under the proper guidance of a medical doctor. Use extreme caution when using oils with children and consult your medical doctor before using oils with children, or the elderly, if you have medical issues or are taking medication.

Where to Buy Essential Oils

Not all essential oils are created equal; in fact, the quality can vary significantly from one brand to another. That’s why, in my aromatherapy practices and products, I exclusively rely on essential oils from trusted sources like Mountain Rose Herbs and Aromatics International. These two companies have earned my trust due to their unwavering commitment to quality. They subject their oils to rigorous testing to ensure purity and potency, and their dedication to fair trade practices further aligns with my values. Sadly, some unscrupulous companies or oil brokers dilute their essential oils with subpar ingredients, compromising their therapeutic benefits. With Mountain Rose Herbs and Aromatics International, I can confidently provide my clients with the purest and most effective essential oils available.
